IMD Issued Heavy Rainfall Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) have issued widespread alerts across the state due to intense pre-monsoon activity. IMD Issued Heavy Rainfall Alert for these districts In Karnataka

A combination of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and cyclonic circulations near Tamil Nadu and Vidarbha is driving these heavy thunder showers. Karnataka is expected to experience widespread thunderstorms, severe lightning, and heavy rain spells, accompanied by strong gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.

Moving into the mid-week period from May 20 to May 22, persistent thunder showers will continue to impact both the interior and coastal districts, though the wind intensity is projected to drop slightly to a range of 30 to 40 kmph. Finally, by May 23 and May 24, the rain activity is expected to recede significantly, bringing normalizing conditions across the state with no major weather alerts issued.

Heavy rainfall alert in these places for next few days:

Orange Alert: Issued for parts of South Interior Karnataka. Heaviest showers are concentrated across Chitradurga, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar.

Yellow Alert: Sounded for Bengaluru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Mandya, Hassan, and parts of Coastal/North Interior Karnataka (including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, and Dharwad).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has active weather warnings in place for Coastal Karnataka (covering Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts) as intense pre-monsoon activity peaks this week.

Moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea interacting with high daytime temperatures are creating highly unstable atmospheric conditions. Between May 19 and May 21, Coastal Karnataka is under a Yellow Alert due to expected widespread light to moderate rain, heavy isolated downpours, and severe evening thunderstorms featuring gusty winds of 40–50 kmph.

While wind speeds are expected to slow slightly by May 22, continuous thunderstorm activity and scattered showers will keep lightning warnings in place, before skies finally clear and conditions stabilize between May 23 and May 24 as the region transitions to standard pre-monsoon humidity.
