Police install traffic signs, hold public awareness meet to promote safety and discipline

Gokarna : In a bid to streamline traffic movement and ensure better safety for tourists visiting the coastal town, the Gokarna Police have installed traffic signage boards at key locations with the cooperation of the Gokarna Gram Panchayat.

The initiative, led by Police Inspector Shridhar S.R., aims to promote traffic discipline and provide vital information to visitors about local rules and safe conduct.

The installation program was followed by a police-public interaction meeting held at Nadumaskeri Gram Panchayat, presided over by Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Rajendra Bhat. During the session, police officials and local representatives discussed public safety issues, traffic violations, cybercrime awareness, and preventive measures against narcotics.

Addressing the gathering, Inspector Shridhar S.R. emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining law and order. He urged residents and tourists to strictly follow traffic rules, wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, and ensure pedestrian safety. “Public support is essential in curbing drug abuse and illegal sales. Information shared by citizens can help the police act swiftly,” he said.

He also spoke about the ‘Police Visit to Every Home’ initiative, under which officers interact directly with local residents to understand grievances and resolve issues with the assistance of concerned departments. Several complaints raised by villagers were addressed on the spot during the meeting.

The session also included an awareness drive on women’s and children’s safety laws, with the police appealing to citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activities promptly.

During the meeting, the Nadumaskeri Gram Panchayat highlighted key civic concerns, including the need for a permanent Grade-1 Secretary and PDO, and requested improved bus connectivity for students to safely commute to schools and colleges.

Responding to the appeal, Executive Officer Rajendra Bhat assured the villagers that their requests would be forwarded to the Zilla Panchayat officials and said he would personally contact the Ankola and Kumta KSRTC depot managers to explore immediate solutions for the transportation issue.

To strengthen local security and surveillance, the Gram Panchayat has also agreed to install four CCTV cameras and additional traffic boards using Panchayat funds. PSI Khadar Bhasha and other officials were present during the session.
