StepX Neo Unveiled as AI First Smartphone With Built In Agent for Everyday Tasks

StepFun has introduced the StepX Neo featuring an integrated AI agent designed to handle travel planning translation productivity and multiple connected tasks through a single user command automatically.

Chinese artificial intelligence company StepFun has introduced the StepX Neo, a smartphone that it describes as the world’s first mass market agentic smartphone. Unlike conventional AI powered devices, the new handset is designed around an integrated AI agent capable of carrying out multiple actions across apps and system functions with a single command instead of requiring users to switch between different applications.

At the heart of the StepX Neo is the company’s Step Amoo AI agent, which goes beyond answering questions like a traditional chatbot. According to StepFun, the AI assistant can coordinate several tasks simultaneously. For instance, if a user asks it to plan a trip, the agent can organize flights, hotels, and other travel related details while managing the required services in the background. The company also says the assistant gradually learns user preferences and delivers more personalized recommendations over time.

The smartphone runs on Step AOS, a custom operating system developed by combining elements of Android, Linux, and RTOS. StepFun says this software architecture allows the AI engine to interact with apps, files, communication tools, and system resources more efficiently. The operating system also includes a Natural User Interface that enables users to perform various actions through voice commands or by using the phone’s camera.

One of the major highlights of the StepX Neo is its ability to perform several AI functions even without an internet connection. The company claims the device supports live translation in 32 languages along with multiple regional dialects. It can translate face to face conversations, phone calls, text messages, and written content such as restaurant menus, museum displays, and street signs in real time. Offline capabilities also include access to saved travel plans, local transit information, and selected travel assistance features.

StepFun has also focused on improving privacy and security within the device. The company says separate systems have been created for memory management, decision making, and data protection. Permissions are granted only when required for a specific task and can be withdrawn once the activity is completed. The smartphone is also powered by the company’s Step Edge on device AI model, which has been optimized specifically for mobile hardware.

To expand its capabilities, the AI agent has been integrated with several popular digital services. StepFun says users will be able to complete activities such as travel bookings, digital payments, ride hailing, office productivity, and content creation through platforms including Ctrip, Alipay, Didi, Meituan, WPS, and CapCut without manually navigating each individual application.

Although the company has revealed the key software features and AI capabilities, it has not yet announced the official price or release date of the StepX Neo. StepFun has also not confirmed whether the smartphone will be launched outside China, leaving global availability uncertain for now.

The launch reflects the growing competition in AI powered smartphones, where companies are moving beyond simple voice assistants toward intelligent systems capable of independently completing complex tasks. Whether the StepX Neo can deliver the seamless experience promised by StepFun will become clear once the device reaches consumers and undergoes real world testing.
