Ola S1 X Plus 5.2 kWh Scooter Gets ICAT Approval Marking a Major Step in EV Push

Ola Electric strengthens its premium scooter lineup as the S1 X Plus with 4680 Bharat Cell battery receives ICAT certification, promising higher range, safety and improved performance for Indian riders.

Ola Electric has taken another step forward in its electric mobility journey after its S1 X Plus 5.2 kWh scooter received certification from the International Centre for Automotive Technology under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. This approval marks an important milestone for the company as it continues to expand its presence in the premium electric scooter segment in India.

The newly certified model is powered by the company’s in house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery technology, which is designed to deliver higher energy efficiency and improved driving range. According to company representatives, the S1 X Plus stands as the highest range offering in Ola’s electric two wheeler portfolio, combining performance with advanced safety features.

A spokesperson from Ola Electric described the certification as a significant achievement, highlighting the role of Bharat Cell technology in reaching a wider market. The company believes that this development strengthens its position in the EV space, especially as demand for long range electric scooters continues to rise among urban commuters.

Performance wise, the S1 X Plus 5.2 kWh comes equipped with an 11 kW mid drive motor paired with an integrated motor control unit. It also features brake by wire technology along with a front disc brake setup, aimed at improving riding stability and control. The scooter is capable of reaching a top speed of around 125 kmph, placing it among the faster electric scooters available in its category.

Ola Electric currently offers a wide range of scooters catering to different customer needs. Its lineup includes models such as S1 Pro Plus with 4 kWh and 5.2 kWh variants, S1 Pro with 3 kWh and 4 kWh options, and S1 X available across multiple battery configurations including 2 kWh, 3 kWh, 4 kWh and 5.2 kWh. Alongside scooters, the company has also expanded into electric motorcycles under the Roadster series.

In recent developments, Ola Electric also reduced the price of its Roadster X Plus 9.1 kWh electric motorcycle by 60000 rupees. The model, which also uses the 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack, is now priced at 129999 rupees instead of its earlier 189999 rupees tag. The company claims that the motorcycle offers an IDC range of over 500 kilometres, making it one of the most efficient long range electric motorcycles in the market.

The price revision was made possible due to increased production of Bharat Cell batteries at Ola’s gigafactory, which helped reduce manufacturing costs. The company stated that it aims to pass on these cost benefits directly to customers, making premium electric mobility more accessible.

However, the journey has not been without challenges. In the past year, Ola Electric faced customer complaints related to service delays and operational issues. In response, the company introduced its Hyperservice program to improve after sales support and address concerns more efficiently.

With new certifications, improved battery technology and an expanding product portfolio, Ola Electric appears focused on strengthening its position in India’s rapidly growing EV market. The approval for the S1 X Plus adds another layer of momentum as the company continues to compete in a highly competitive electric two wheeler industry.
