A tragic drowning incident in Maharashtra’s Amravati claimed four young lives after they entered a pond for a swim, leaving families shattered and the entire locality mourning deeply.

A wave of grief swept through Maharashtra’s Amravati district after four youngsters lost their lives in a drowning incident at Ghatkheda pond. The victims had reportedly stepped out from their homes early in the morning for a casual walk, but the outing ended in tragedy.
The incident took place under the limits of Kholapuri Gate police station. While walking through the area, the group reached the nearby pond and decided to enter the water for a swim. According to local residents, the children failed to realise the depth of the pond and soon began drowning one after another.
Families Left Devastated
The deceased were identified as Sonali Narendra Joshi aged 16, Aditya Narendra Joshi aged 12, Payal Bablu Pandit aged 21, and Yash Gajanan Kakne aged 13. Two of the victims belonged to the same family, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for relatives.
Residents who noticed the youngsters struggling in the water immediately informed police and district officials. Soon after receiving the alert, teams from Kholapuri Gate police station and the district disaster response unit rushed to the spot.
Rescue Teams Recover Bodies
With the support of local villagers, rescue personnel carried out a search operation in the pond and later recovered all four bodies. The victims were shifted to a hospital for postmortem examination.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Preliminary reports suggest the youngsters entered a deeper portion of the pond where they were unable to escape safely.
Authorities Issue Warning to Parents
The tragic deaths have left the Ghatkheda area in deep sorrow. Locals said there were no adults nearby when the children entered the pond, which delayed rescue efforts during the critical moments.
Officials have appealed to parents to remain cautious during summer vacations and ensure children do not visit ponds, lakes, or other water bodies without supervision. Authorities warned that such negligence could lead to more avoidable tragedies.
