Amazon Merges MX Player Content with Prime Video Bringing Free and Paid Streaming Under One Platform in India
Amazon integrates MX Player with Prime Video in India creating a unified streaming ecosystem where users can access free and premium content together with subscription and ad supported viewing options across devices

Amazon has announced a major shift in its streaming strategy in India by bringing Amazon MX Player and Prime Video together on a single platform. The move is expected to roll out gradually over the coming months and aims to simplify how users access entertainment by combining free and premium content in one place.
With this integration, viewers will no longer need to switch between apps to find different types of content. Instead, subscription based streaming, ad supported videos, transactional rentals, and add on services will all be available within a unified ecosystem. This approach is designed to make the viewing experience more seamless and flexible for users with different preferences.
The development comes after Amazon acquired MX Player assets in 2024 and later merged them with miniTV to form Amazon MX Player. The platform initially focused on free entertainment and ad driven streaming. Now, by linking it with Prime Video, Amazon is aiming to bring both free users and paid subscribers into a shared content environment.
Prime members will benefit the most from this integration as they will be able to access both Prime Video originals and MX Player exclusive content in one place. Depending on their choice, users can watch content with advertisements or opt for an ad free experience through subscription. Free users will continue to have access to a wide range of ad supported content, with clear options to upgrade to Prime membership if they choose.
For Android users, the Amazon MX Player app will not disappear. Instead, it will continue in a rebranded form, functioning as both a media player and a free streaming app. It will also include a dedicated Prime Video section where users can subscribe and unlock premium content directly within the app.
On the other hand, users on iOS devices, smart TVs, and web platforms will be directed to the Prime Video app. There, they will find both free ad supported content and the full premium catalog under one interface, making navigation more straightforward across devices.
The combined platform will also host a wider range of entertainment options, including MX Player original series, reality shows, micro dramas, dubbed international content, and global Prime Video titles. This expanded library is expected to strengthen Amazon’s position in India’s competitive streaming market.
Amazon has also highlighted that advertisers will benefit from this integration. With both MX Player and Prime Video operating together, brands will have access to a centralized platform that connects them with both free and paid audiences, improving reach and targeting opportunities across different viewer segments.
