Russian woman first reaction after police rescued her from Gokarna cave

The Russian woman, Nina Kutina (also known as Mohi), rescued from a cave near Gokarna, has reacted to the situation. Her statements suggest a strong defense of her lifestyle and a disagreement with how the authorities and media are portraying her family’s living conditions.

Kutina has firmly stated that she and her children were “not dying” and were, in fact, “very happy” and healthy in the cave. She strongly dismissed claims of neglect or danger, saying her daughters “did not feel bad” and “had everything best.”

She emphasized her preference for a “natural” lifestyle, stating, “we love natural because it gives us health.” She claimed they have extensive experience living in nature across different countries.

Kutina expressed frustration with what she called “a lot of lying information” being circulated in the media. She countered narratives about her children’s health, saying they were in “perfect health” and had never been sick before being taken to the hospital by authorities.

She described the cave as “very big and beautiful,” not deep in a dangerous forest, and “very close to village,” making it easy to buy food. She mentioned they cooked with gas, had art lessons, and swam in waterfalls.

Visa Status Clarification (from her perspective): While police state her visa expired in 2017, Kutina disputed the notion of having overstayed since then. She claimed her old passport was found, leading to a misunderstanding, and that they had traveled to “four countries” after 2017 and then returned to India. She also mentioned that her extended stay in India after a recent visa expiry was partly due to the death of her elder son.

Contrary to some initial reports that she was primarily driven by spirituality, she clarified that her choice was more about “natural” living for “health” benefits. She claimed to have a Telegram channel with photos and videos documenting their life in the cave, showing their daily activities, cooking, and lessons.

After their rescue, Nina Kutina and her two daughters were initially moved to an ashram and subsequently sent to a rescue center in Tumakuru. Authorities are in the process of coordinating with the Russian Embassy for their deportation.
