According to reports, the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Dr. Nagalakshmi Choudhary, has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police, K. Arun, seeking strong action.

Demand for SIT Probe: Dr. Choudhary has urged the Chief Minister to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior police officials to thoroughly probe the allegations. The Commission has called for the SIT’s investigation to cover not just the recent allegations of mass burials, but also to examine cases of missing women and girl students in the Dharmasthala area over the past 20 years.

Unnatural deaths, murders, and rape cases reported in the village during the same period. The Commission’s letter highlights allegations from several families that the police did not respond properly when they tried to register cases of disappearance or death of their children.

The Commission has requested the authorities to submit a detailed report on these matters within seven days. The Commission has taken suo motu (on its own initiative) cognizance of statements made by a whistleblower (the former sanitation worker) and recent media reports that have brought these shocking allegations to light.

This intervention by the State Women’s Commission underscores the gravity of the allegations and adds significant pressure for a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the long-standing concerns surrounding the Dharmasthala area.
