Bengaluru: A shocking incident of animal cruelty has been reported from the city, where a housemaid allegedly killed her employer’s pet dog inside an apartment lift. The Bagalur police have arrested the accused, identified as Pushpalatha, after reviewing CCTV footage that captured the incident.
According to the complaint filed by K.R. Rashika, the dog named Goofy was thrown to the floor and strangled with a belt by the maid. The entire act was recorded on the building’s lift CCTV camera, which later became crucial evidence for the police.
Based on Rashika’s complaint, police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing grievous harm. Pushpalatha was taken into custody and interrogated before being formally arrested, police confirmed.
Sources said the maid had been employed to take care of the pet. On October 31, while returning from a walk, she allegedly assaulted and strangled the dog inside the lift. Later, she reportedly misled the owner by claiming that the dog had “collapsed suddenly and died.”
However, Rashika became suspicious and checked the CCTV footage the next day, which exposed the maid’s violent act. The incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread outrage from animal lovers and welfare activists across Bengaluru.
The police have assured strict legal action against the accused under the applicable sections of animal cruelty and criminal law.
