 Meanwhile, Punjab Kings are looking to release their former captain Mayank Agarwal, big-hitter Shah Rukh Khan and all-rounder Odean Smith ahead of the Indian Premier League IPL 2023 mini-auction, according to Cricbuzz report.

On November 2, the Punjab Kings franchise announced the appointment of Shikhar Dhawan as their new captain. The franchise bought Dhawan for Rs 8.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Therefore, there are reports about dropping Mayank Agarwal, the captain of the last season, from the team.

Despite being considered as one of the strongest teams after the auction, the Punjab Kings under the leadership of Mayank Agarwal did not perform well in IPL 2022. They were ranked sixth in the ten-team event.

According to a report, Punjab Kings’ newly appointed head coach Trevor Bayliss is keen on securing the services of at least two of Ben Stokes, Cameron Green and Sam Curran in the Indian Premier League IPL 2023 mini-auction. That’s why the Punjab franchise is looking to release big players like Agarwal (12 crores), Shahrukh (9 crores), and Smith (6 crores).

The historic Ashes Test series will start on June 16 next year and IPL usually gets finished in the first week of June as the franchise owners and management will keep a tab on the availability of the English and Australian players for the upcoming season.

Apart from Stokes, two other rising all-rounders in world cricket at the moment – Sam Curran and Cameron Green are also highly likely to enter the auction. Curran already has rich experience of playing in IPL but he missed the last season due to injury, while Australia’s big future prospect Green will look to make a big name for himself in IPL next year.

Several teams who didn’t have an ideal last season are expected to offload some players ahead of the auction. Punjab Kings have already named new captain and coach for the next season – Shikhar Dhawan and Trevor Bayliss. They are expected to make big changes to their side with the auction coming.
