Tumakuru MLA Rajanna questions government’s move: “Do Muslims take permission to pray on roads or Eidgah grounds?”

Tumakuru, : In a remark that has stirred controversy, MLA K.N. Rajanna on Saturday questioned whether Muslims seek permission to offer prayers on roads or Eidgah grounds, amid discussions on enforcing regulations for public gatherings.

Speaking at a press conference, Rajanna said, “When people offer namaz on roads without permission, can we stop them? Do they come asking for permission? Do we ever insist they take one?”

Reacting to the new rule mandating prior permission for organizing events in public places, he stated, “It is essential to bring laws that can actually be enforced. If we frame rules that cannot be implemented, they will only remain in the books. We have to wait and see how far this new regulation will be applied effectively.”

Rajanna’s comments have drawn sharp attention, especially as debates continue across Karnataka over the government’s move to restrict certain religious or organizational activities in public institutions.
