Z-category security cover for BJP national president Nitin Nabin

New Delhi: The Union government has provided high-level VIP security to newly appointed BJP national president Nitin Nabin, underscoring the importance of his role within the ruling party. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), through its specialised VIP security wing, will provide Z-category security cover to Nabin, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued instructions to the CRPF soon after Nitin Nabin’s name was officially announced as the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The move follows established protocol, as former BJP national president J.P. Nadda was also accorded similar security cover during his tenure.

Nitin Nabin, a five-time MLA from Bihar, was unanimously elected as BJP national president on Monday, January 20. With this appointment, he has become the youngest leader to hold the party’s top organisational post, marking a generational shift within the BJP’s leadership structure.

His elevation is being viewed as part of the party’s long-term strategy to groom younger leaders while maintaining organisational continuity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his appointment and described him as a “millennial leader” who would carry forward the party’s ideology and organisational legacy.

In a remark that quickly drew attention, Modi said, “He is my boss; I am a BJP worker,” highlighting the party’s emphasis on collective leadership and discipline. Under the Central Protection List, VIP security is categorised into X, Y, Y-plus, Z and Z-plus levels, depending on threat perception and official status.

Z-category security typically includes a close-protection team of armed commandos, escort vehicles and round-the-clock surveillance. Several senior political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, members of the Gandhi family and other high-profile individuals, are currently covered under CRPF-provided VIP security arrangements.

Officials stated that the decision to provide Z-category security to Nitin Nabin was based on standard security assessment protocols, considering his new position and public engagements across the country. The CRPF will be responsible for his personal security during travel, public appearances and political events.

With the BJP gearing up for upcoming electoral challenges, Nitin Nabin’s appointment and the accompanying security measures signal the party’s focus on organisational stability, leadership transition and ensuring uninterrupted political activity at the national level.
