West Bengal poll survey triggers political heat; tight race between TMC and BJP

New Delhi : The political temperature across the country has intensified with the buzz around the upcoming Assembly elections in multiple states. Amid this, fresh pre-poll survey results from West Bengal have added a new twist to the electoral battle, indicating a close contest between Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As election fervour grips states like Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, along with by-elections in Karnataka, all eyes are now on West Bengal, which has emerged as the most fiercely contested battleground.

According to surveys conducted by agencies Matrix and Chanakya, the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly is likely to witness a neck-and-neck fight. The projections suggest that while the ruling TMC retains an edge, the BJP has significantly strengthened its position, making the contest highly competitive.

As per the Matrix survey, TMC is expected to win between 140 and 160 seats, while BJP may secure 130 to 150 seats. Others are projected to get 8 to 16 seats. Meanwhile, the Chanakya survey gives TMC a slightly stronger lead with 155 to 160 seats, while BJP is estimated to win 110 to 115 seats, and others 9 to 14 seats.

In terms of vote share, Matrix data indicates TMC could secure around 43% of the votes, closely followed by BJP at 41%, with others accounting for 16%. These figures highlight the narrowing gap between the two major parties, pointing towards an intense electoral battle.

The surveys suggest that TMC may cross the majority mark, but BJP’s aggressive campaign and growing grassroots presence have made the outcome less predictable. Political observers note that even a slight swing in voter sentiment could significantly alter the final results.

For Mamata Banerjee, the election is crucial to retain her stronghold, while BJP sees this as a major opportunity to expand its footprint in eastern India. The party has been consistently targeting the TMC government over issues of governance and development.

With both parties intensifying their campaigns, the West Bengal elections are shaping up to be one of the most closely watched political contests in recent times. While survey results hint at a TMC advantage, the final outcome remains uncertain, keeping the suspense alive.
