RSS worker, grandson of senior leader Dina Nath, shot dead by unidentified assailants
Firozepur (Punjab): In a shocking incident that has triggered outrage across RSS circles, an RSS worker was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Punjab’s Firozepur on Saturday evening. The murder comes at a time when the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is celebrating its nationwide centenary year with marches and public events.
The deceased, Naveen Arora, was the grandson of senior RSS leader Dina Nath—one of the most prominent figures credited with strengthening and expanding the organisation in northern India. Naveen, who ran a local business, was returning home after closing his shop to spend time with his children when he was ambushed by two assailants.
Shot dead at the doorstep
Naveen Arora, a father of two, was known for his daily routine of closing his shop in the evening and spending time with his children. His grieving father, speaking to local media, said Naveen had left the shop after a brief conversation and walked home as usual. “Within minutes, local traders came running to inform me what had happened. My son had no enemies. He spoke kindly to everyone. Yet they shot him,” he said, breaking down.
Gunmen caught on CCTV
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and began scanning CCTV footage from the neighbourhood. The footage reportedly shows two armed men firing at Naveen before fleeing the spot. A special police team has been formed to track down the attackers and determine the motive.
BJP reacts sharply
Condemning the murder, BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal called it a “brazen and shocking act,” especially as it took place in broad daylight. “Goons are roaming freely and carrying out targeted killings. Naveen Arora was not just a businessman—he belonged to a family deeply rooted in RSS service. Dina Nath ji, his son Baldev Raj Arora, and now Naveen were all active in the RSS. This was a targeted killing,” he said.
RSS on high alert
The killing has rattled RSS cadres across Punjab, particularly as the organisation is holding major events marking its 100th anniversary. Police continue to investigate the motive and are verifying whether the attack was politically motivated, linked to extortion, or a targeted assault on RSS members.
