Pornographic websites ban: The Central government has ordered internet companies to block 67 pornographic websites following court orders and violating new IT rules issued in 2021. Pornographic websites ban: Central government orders internet companies.

In an email sent to internet service providers, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked to block 63 websites based on the Pune court order and 4 websites based on the Uttarakhand High Court order and directions issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY).

Pursuant to the order of the Uttarakhand High Court read with Rule 3 (2) (b) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Ethics) Rules, 2021 and in view of certain obscene content available on the following website which tarnishes the modesty charisma of women, immediately the Directed to remove (block) … websites / URLs’, the Department of Telecom order dated September 24.

According to MEITY applied IT Rules 2021, access to content hosted, stored or published that ‘shows such person in full or partial nudity or shows or depicts such person in any sexual act or conduct’ and fake or artificially morphed content to  tell IT companies that it mandates removal or deactivation.
