PM Modi Responds to Gas Shortage and Outlines Plan to Boost Domestic Production

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed concerns over the gas shortage, assuring efforts to expand domestic production, strengthen infrastructure, reduce import dependence and maintain fertilizer prices without increasing financial burden on farmers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the growing concern over gas shortage in the country and assured that the government is actively working on multiple fronts to stabilize the supply situation. Speaking at the NXT event held at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday, he said the government is implementing a dual strategy aimed at strengthening domestic production while also managing imports efficiently.

According to the Prime Minister, improving the country’s energy security remains a key priority. He explained that expanding domestic infrastructure for gas production will help increase availability within India and gradually reduce reliance on foreign supplies. The government is focusing on creating strong infrastructure so that the nation does not have to depend solely on global sources for its energy needs.

Modi also responded sharply to criticism from opposition parties regarding the gas shortage. He accused them of using the issue to push their political agenda and spreading unnecessary panic among the public. The Prime Minister said his administration has been consistently working to overcome supply disruptions and ensure stability in the energy sector.

He further stated that the government has been holding discussions with global leaders to address transportation bottlenecks affecting gas supplies. Continuous diplomatic and logistical efforts are underway to secure stable supply chains and prevent further disruption in the market.

Highlighting progress made in the energy sector over the past decade, Modi noted that petroleum reserves in India were minimal before 2014 but have now increased significantly to more than five million tonnes. He added that the number of LPG connections and LNG terminals in the country has doubled since 2014, strengthening the overall energy infrastructure.

The Prime Minister also spoke about concerns regarding fertilizer prices, especially amid the ongoing Russia Ukraine crisis. He assured that the government will ensure farmers do not face additional financial pressure. Despite global urea prices rising sharply, the government has maintained the price of a urea bag in India at around 300 rupees.

Modi urged state governments to remain vigilant and take strict action against gas black marketing and the spread of false rumours. He stressed that such activities can worsen the crisis and create unnecessary fear among citizens and therefore must be dealt with firmly.
