Ludhiana police arrested 10 handlers, foil ISI-backed grenade attack plot in Punjab

Chandigarh: Ludhiana police have uncovered a Pakistan-based ISI-backed terrorist plot aimed at creating unrest in Punjab by carrying out grenade attacks in densely populated areas. In a major breakthrough, authorities have arrested ten foreign-origin handlers allegedly involved in planning and executing the attacks.

Officials revealed that the arrested suspects had established links with handlers from Malaysia and Pakistan. Investigations indicate that they were actively engaged in stockpiling and distributing hand grenades to execute coordinated strikes across urban areas in Punjab.

“Ensuring peace and security in Punjab is our utmost priority. We are committed to eliminating terrorism and dismantling cross-border terror networks attempting to disrupt normal life,” stated DGP Gaurav Yadav on his official social media handle.

The arrests come in the wake of the deadly car bomb explosion near Delhi’s Kempkote metro station on November 10, which claimed 13 lives and injured more than 20 people. The central government has categorically termed the incident a “terrorist act” and confirmed that investigations will cover all possible dimensions, including cross-border involvement, planning, and execution.

Authorities said that the handlers had been under surveillance for several weeks. They were reportedly coordinating with foreign operatives to smuggle explosives and organize attacks targeting crowded public spaces. Law enforcement agencies have seized communication devices and explosive materials, which are being analyzed to identify the network’s extent and other possible collaborators.

Punjab police, in collaboration with central agencies, have stepped up vigilance across sensitive districts and border areas to prevent further terror threats. The DGP emphasized that proactive intelligence-led operations are crucial to neutralize any plots before they materialize, ensuring the safety of civilians.

This arrest marks a significant success for Indian security agencies in countering ISI-backed terror attempts and highlights the ongoing threat posed by cross-border networks attempting to destabilize peace in Punjab and other regions. Investigators continue to examine the links between the arrested handlers and other known terror operatives, aiming to dismantle the entire operational chain and prevent future attacks.
