RTPCR rapid test should be done in every district and city.

If positive, the sample should be sent for genomic sequencing.

It has been instructed that the covid-19 rules should be implemented locally.

After the detection of the first case of JN.1 mutation in India, the Center has advised the states to follow the Covid guidelines.

Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant has issued guidelines in the wake of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in some states and Union Territories in India and the first case of the new JN.1 variant of Covid-19 in the country.

He has written to states and Union Territories stressing the importance of vigilance in the fight against the epidemic. Collaborative efforts between the central and state governments will help in reducing the rate of infection, he said.

The COVID-19 virus is still circulating. As its behavior adapts to Indian climatic conditions and the presence of other common pathogens, it is critical to continue our efforts to effectively tackle public health challenges, the health ministry said in a statement.

India recorded 260 new coronavirus infections on Monday, taking the active cases to 1,828, according to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry. 4 deaths have been reported in Kerala, where the Jn.1 subvariant of the coronavirus was recently detected. States have been advised to implement necessary public health safety measures and make appropriate arrangements to reduce the risk of disease spread.

States have been instructed to monitor and report cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) and acute respiratory illness (SARI) on a district-wise basis in all health facilities. This data should be regularly updated on the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) portal to detect any early upward trend in cases.

The Center has asked the states to ensure adequate testing as per the Covid-19 testing guidelines in all districts by maintaining the recommended rate of RT-PCR and antigen tests. It has been asked to increase the number of RT-PCR tests and send positive samples for genome sequencing to Indian SARS COV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) laboratories.

This is said to facilitate timely detection of any new mutations that may emerge in the country. States should actively involve all public and private health facilities in the preparedness and mock drill organized by the Union Health Ministry.
