Kerala woman thrashes molester inside bus, video goes viral

Thiruvananthapuram : A shocking incident of sexual harassment inside a bus has surfaced from the state capital, where a man allegedly tried to molest a young woman during her journey. The incident was recorded by the survivor herself, and the video has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage across Kerala.

The woman was travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Vellarada when the accused, seated beside her, reportedly began pressing his body against hers. Initially, she ignored it, thinking it was unintentional. However, his actions soon turned aggressive. According to the victim’s statement, “He started by leaning on me, but later tried to put his hand inside my T-shirt. That’s when I lost control, took my phone, recorded the act, and hit him right there.”

In the viral video, the furious woman can be seen slapping and confronting the accused in front of other passengers. She is heard shouting, “Don’t you have a mother or sister at home? How can you behave like this in a crowded bus? Aren’t you ashamed?”

Eyewitnesses said the bus conductor intervened after hearing the commotion and rebuked the man before forcing him to alight from the vehicle. However, what has shocked many is the indifference of fellow passengers, who reportedly remained silent during the ordeal.

Despite the seriousness of the act, no official police complaint has been filed yet, according to Kerala Transport Department officials. They confirmed that no case has been registered so far, though the video has drawn widespread condemnation online.

The incident once again raises concerns about the safety of women in public transport and the lack of bystander intervention during such crimes. Women’s rights activists have urged authorities to take suo motu cognizance of the viral video and ensure the culprit is traced and punished.
