I Love Muhammad Graffiti Sparks Tension on Temple Walls in Aligarh

I Love Muhammad Graffiti Sparks Tension on Temple Walls in AligarhTensions flared in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, after “I Love Muhammad” graffiti appeared on the walls of five temples in Bhagwanpur and Bulakigarh villages on Saturday. Authorities have deployed heavy police personnel in the area as a precautionary measure.

Senior police officers, along with forensic experts, rushed to the sites, reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding areas, and reportedly identified the perpetrators. Police have registered a case against eight individuals named Mustaqeem, Gul Mohammad, Sulaiman, Sonu, Allabaksh, Hameed, and Yusuf.

“We are treating this incident very seriously and investigating all aspects thoroughly. No guilty person will be spared,” said SSP Neeraj Kumar, stressing that the matter is being handled with utmost urgency. Officials are also probing the possibility of a land-related dispute connected to the incident.

Meanwhile, Gyanendra Singh Chauhan, Vice President of the Akhil Bharat Karni Sena, accused local police of negligence. He alleged that, instead of taking action against the accused, police initially detained villagers who reported the incident. Chauhan also claimed that police attempted to remove the graffiti from temple walls to downplay the situation.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over religious tensions in the region. In September, similar controversies erupted in Kanpur, where police filed FIRs against 24 people for removing posters during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession. That action had sparked protests across Uttar Pradesh and other states, highlighting sensitivities over religious sentiments and public order.

Authorities have emphasized the need for calm and have urged local communities to cooperate with police while the investigation proceeds. Security has been tightened around the affected temples to prevent any escalation.
