The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain for the next few days in several parts of the country. According to IMD, fairly widespread or moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Sunday and Monday. Heavy Rainfall alert in these states for 5 days, schools closed.
Similar conditions are likely to prevail over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during next 5 days. States like Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh too will receive widespread rainfall in the next two day. “Fairly widespread and moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on August 28 and 29.
Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Uttarakhand on August 28,” the IMD said in a tweet. The Met department has also predicted widespread rain for north interior Karnataka, Telangana and Rayalaseema between August 28 and 30. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe and coastal Karnataka are also likely to receive widespread rainfall over the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for moderate to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, till tomorrow. In the wake of this alert, schools in Mussoorie will remain closed today (August 29), announced Sonika, District Magistrate of Dehradun. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a yellow alert in the state, owing to continuous heavy rainfall across parts of the state.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Saung river increased on the Dehradun-Thano road due to heavy rains since last night. Dehradun DM Sonika along with concerned officers inspected the Souda Saroli bridge and gave necessary directions regarding safety of bridge, and of the passengers going through it.
Last week, the Tehri district bore the brunt of another cloudburst as heavy rains led to the overflowing of Nelchami rivulet in Chirbatia village, inundating irrigated farmlands. However, preliminary reports did not mention any casualty, the district disaster management office here said.

Some bridges on the Moolgarh-Tharti road have been damaged. The road is blocked near Tharti and traffic along the route is disrupted, it said. The Nelchami river is flowing furiously and people living close to the banks fear for their safety, a source said.
