Gurugram abduction attempt: 23-year-old woman rescued after SUV incident near Leopard Trail
Gurugram: Once again, serious concerns have been raised about women’s safety in Gurugram after a 23-year-old woman was reportedly abducted and subjected to an attempted assault near the popular tourist spot Leopard Trail, located by the Aravalli Hills.
Police have arrested 25-year-old accused, Gaurav Rathi, in connection with the incident. According to authorities, the victim was returning from an event with her friend when the horrifying episode occurred.
Gaurav Rathi allegedly forced her into a Mahindra Scorpio SUV and attempted to assault her. Investigations are ongoing, and police are examining every detail of the case.
How the incident unfolded:
The victim’s friend told police that on Sunday morning, the duo decided to stop near Leopard Trail on their way back from an event. Suddenly, a Scorpio SUV blocked their path. A verbal confrontation reportedly occurred between the friend and the accused. During this, the victim stepped out of the vehicle.
Gaurav Rathi allegedly snatched the friend’s mobile phone, assaulted him, and forcibly took the woman into the SUV before fleeing the scene. The victim’s friend followed in a Hyundai Aura, but was unable to intercept the SUV.
He immediately alerted the police. Following a two-hour search, the police located the vehicle in the Sakathpur area, a short distance from Leopard Trail, and seized it.
Victim found unconscious in SUV:
Authorities noted that one of the SUV’s wheels had slipped into a drain and its hood was damaged, indicating a possible high-speed mishap. Upon reaching the site, police found the woman unconscious in the rear seat of the SUV. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.
Investigations have revealed that Gaurav Rathi runs a fruit stall and had borrowed the SUV from an acquaintance. Police are now questioning the vehicle owner as part of the probe. The case has reignited debates about safety measures for women in Gurugram, especially in isolated areas near tourist spots.
Officials have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity promptly and have assured strict legal action against the accused.
