Death Threat Against PM Modi Ahead of Australia Visit Triggers Security Probe

Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins his Australia visit, a threatening Facebook comment has prompted an investigation by Australian authorities, with security agencies tightening protection and monitoring the situation closely.

Australian authorities have launched an investigation after an alleged death threat targeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi surfaced on Facebook just days before his scheduled visit to the country. The incident has prompted security agencies to strengthen protective measures ahead of the high profile engagements planned during his trip.

According to reports, the threatening message appeared in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the Melbourne Meets Modi event, which is scheduled to take place on July 9 at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium. The event is expected to attract thousands of members of the Indian community living in Australia.

The post allegedly came from a Facebook account identified as Abu Mustafa. The comment, written in both Arabic and English, suggested that the stadium roof should remain closed during the event, warning that otherwise the Prime Minister could meet his death in Australia. Investigators are treating the message as a potential security threat and have begun efforts to trace the individual behind the account.

Officials familiar with the investigation said authorities have already identified the IP address linked to the Facebook account and are working to determine the identity of the person responsible. However, the Australian Federal Police has not confirmed whether anyone has been taken into custody and has declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.

Security agencies in Australia are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. Enhanced security arrangements are being planned to ensure the safety of the Indian Prime Minister throughout his visit, particularly during public events expected to draw large crowds.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Australia from July 8 to July 10. During the visit, he is expected to hold the annual leaders’ summit with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, where the two leaders will discuss bilateral relations and strategic cooperation. Modi is also set to address an audience of more than 30000 people of Indian origin at the Melbourne event.
