BJP files complaint against Kharge over remarks on RSS

Bengaluru : The political row over controversial remarks made by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge against the RSS and BJP has intensified, with the Karnataka unit of the BJP filing a formal complaint against him on Tuesday. The remarks, made during an election rally in Assam’s Nilambazar, have triggered sharp reactions and allegations of incitement.

According to BJP leaders, Kharge’s statement comparing RSS and BJP members to “poisonous snakes” has crossed the limits of acceptable political discourse. A delegation led by MLAs submitted a complaint at the office of the Director General and Inspector General of Police in Bengaluru, seeking legal action.

Speaking to reporters after filing the complaint, BJP MLA C.K. Ramamurthy said, “Kharge’s statement is unconstitutional and highly irresponsible. Such comments can provoke unrest and disturb communal harmony. We have urged the police to take strict action.”

Another BJP leader, S. Muniraju, alleged that the Congress leadership was indulging in divisive politics. “This is nothing but an attempt to incite people and create tension in society. Such speeches can lead to serious law and order issues. We have demanded immediate action against Kharge,” he said.

The controversy stems from Kharge’s speech in Assam, where he allegedly referred to a passage from the Quran and drew parallels with political opponents. The BJP has termed the remarks as dangerous and inflammatory, accusing the Congress of encouraging hatred.

The party has also warned of statewide and nationwide protests if no action is taken. “We will not remain silent. Protests will be held across the country to condemn such statements,” Ramamurthy added.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders have remained largely silent on the issue, even as political tensions continue to escalate. Legal experts suggest that the complaint could lead to further scrutiny of political speeches during election campaigns.

The incident has once again highlighted the increasing intensity of political rhetoric in the run-up to elections, raising concerns about its potential impact on public order and democratic values.
