Young entrepreneur who married English woman dies at 39 in Koppal
Koppal: A heart-wrenching incident has been reported from Koppal district where a 39-year-old entrepreneur, who had married an English woman just eight months ago, passed away prematurely, leaving family, friends and the local community in shock.
The deceased has been identified as Murali, a guest house owner from Sanapur village near Anjanadri in Gangavathi taluk. Murali breathed his last in the early hours of Monday (January 19). He was running a guest house at Basapur, located around three to four kilometres from Sanapur, which also served as his primary source of livelihood.
Known for his energetic and creative personality, Murali was not just a guest house owner but also worked as a tourist guide and independent filmmaker. He nurtured a deep passion for Hampi and dreamt of showcasing its heritage and beauty on a global platform through his camera. His association with travellers, artists and filmmakers had earned him recognition beyond the district.
According to friends, Murali had been suffering from persistent stomach pain for a long time. Instead of undergoing detailed medical examinations, he reportedly relied on temporary treatment and medication from local doctors.
Around three months ago, when the pain intensified, he visited Bengaluru for advanced treatment. Doctors later diagnosed that an ulcer in his stomach had developed into a tumour and taken the form of cancer, significantly worsening his condition.
Murali’s personal life had taken a joyful turn just eight months ago. He had married Charlotte Mary Finkler, a London-based writer associated with the film industry. What began as an unexpected friendship during her visit to India gradually blossomed into love. The couple tied the knot on May 9, 2025, at Murali’s guest house in Basapur, following Hindu traditions, drawing attention for their cross-cultural union.
Inspired by cinema, Murali had even created a short film titled India Weds London, documenting their wedding in the style of the popular Kannada film Sanju Weds Geetha. Prior to their marriage, the couple had jointly produced a short film named Dream Space, which went on to win three awards, reflecting their shared creative vision.
Murali’s untimely death, so soon after entering married life, has been described by friends as deeply tragic. His passing has not only cut short a promising creative journey but also left behind dreams that connected cultures, cinema and heritage.
