Woman arrested for harassing Bengaluru inspector with obsessive love threats

Bengaluru, : The Ramamurthy Nagar police have arrested a woman for allegedly harassing a police inspector by persistently pressuring him to enter into a romantic relationship and threatening suicide if he refused. The accused has been identified as Vanaja alias Sanjana.

According to police, Vanaja had been repeatedly approaching Ramamurthy Nagar police station inspector Satish, insisting that he reciprocate her feelings. When the officer rejected her advances, she allegedly escalated the harassment, threatening to end her life if he did not agree to a relationship. The repeated incidents reportedly turned into a serious source of mental stress and embarrassment for the inspector.

Police said the woman’s actions crossed all limits. On occasions when the inspector was not present at the station, she allegedly left boxes of sweets and flower bouquets inside the police station. Investigators revealed that she used as many as 11 different mobile phone numbers to call the inspector and profess her love. In a further disturbing act, she is said to have written a love letter in her own blood in an attempt to emotionally blackmail him.

When these efforts failed, Vanaja allegedly sent another letter threatening suicide along with a strip of tablets labelled “Nexito Plus” to the police station, intensifying concerns over her behaviour.

Unable to tolerate the continued harassment and the threats, Inspector Satish lodged a formal complaint. An FIR was registered under charges related to criminal intimidation, obstruction of duty and issuing suicide threats. Based on the complaint, Ramamurthy Nagar police arrested Vanaja.

During the investigation, police found that the woman had initially approached the inspector by projecting herself as a Congress party worker. She allegedly claimed to have close connections with senior political leaders, including the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, and shared photographs with prominent leaders to gain credibility. She later began exerting pressure on the inspector to accept her proposal.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether similar complaints exist against the accused and to assess her background in detail.
