Weak Monsoon Pushes Karnataka Temperatures Higher as Raichur Records Season Peak
A weak southwest monsoon has raised temperatures across Karnataka with Raichur recording the highest reading while weather officials still expect light rainfall and gusty winds in selected districts.

Karnataka is witnessing unusually warm weather this monsoon season as weakened southwest monsoon conditions continue to reduce rainfall across the state. Instead of the cool and wet conditions typically seen during June and July, several districts are experiencing above normal temperatures, with weather officials reporting a noticeable rise across both northern and southern regions.
Raichur has emerged as the hottest district in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius. The figure is significantly above the seasonal average, highlighting the impact of reduced rainfall and dry atmospheric conditions. Several other districts, including Mysuru, Gadag and Koppal, have also reported temperatures around four degrees Celsius higher than normal for this time of year.
Bengaluru has not been spared from the rising heat either. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius, making it one of the warmest July periods in recent years. According to weather records, July temperatures in Bengaluru usually remain close to 28 degrees Celsius. Meteorological data indicates that this is among the highest July temperature readings seen in the city over the past five years.
Weather experts attribute the unusual conditions to the weakening of the southwest monsoon, which has resulted in a sharp decline in rainfall across many parts of Karnataka. Lower rainfall has reduced moisture levels in the atmosphere, allowing temperatures to climb steadily, particularly in the northern interior districts where dry weather is expected to continue for the coming days.
Despite the overall weak monsoon activity, the India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in a few regions over the next 24 hours. Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are expected to receive scattered showers accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.
Rainfall is also likely in isolated parts of Kodagu and Hassan in the southern interior region. While these showers may offer temporary relief, they are not expected to significantly change the broader weather pattern affecting the state.
The weather department has also issued a warning for strong winds in several districts. Ballari, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara may experience gusty conditions even if widespread rainfall remains limited.
Meteorologists say the current pattern reflects a weaker than usual monsoon phase, which has disrupted the seasonal balance between rainfall and temperature. If the dry spell continues, daytime temperatures may remain above normal across many districts until monsoon activity strengthens again.
Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day and remain updated with local weather forecasts, especially in districts where strong winds and isolated rainfall are expected. While a few areas could receive brief showers, most parts of Karnataka are likely to continue experiencing warmer than usual conditions in the near term.
