Three youths died of asphyxiation in smoke-filled room, one hospitalized

Belagavi A tragic incident unfolded in Aman Nagar when three youths died from suffocation due to smoke in a closed room, while another youth is in critical condition, following a night of celebration.

The victims were identified as Rihan Matti (22), Sarfaraz (22), and Moyin Nalband (22), who died from asphyxiation. A fourth individual, whose condition is critical, has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

According to the police, the four youths had gathered after a naming ceremony and decided to spend the night together. Due to the cold weather, they decided to light a fire inside the room for warmth. To protect themselves from mosquito bites, they also lit mosquito coils and closed the windows.

Unfortunately, the lack of ventilation resulted in the room being filled with smoke, leading to suffocation. Three of the youths succumbed to the fumes while the fourth managed to survive but fell seriously ill.

Police investigation and response:

After the bodies were discovered, Malmaruti police arrived at the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation. The police completed a panchnama and transferred the deceased to BIMS Hospital in Belagavi for autopsy. Additionally, samples were collected from the scene to assist in the investigation. Authorities have confirmed that the cause of death was suffocation due to excessive smoke inhalation.

The tragic deaths have shocked the community, and the grieving families have been left in deep sorrow. Funeral arrangements are expected to be made after the postmortem examination is completed.

This incident highlights the dangers of improper ventilation and the risks associated with using fire and mosquito coils in enclosed spaces without adequate air circulation, particularly during colder months. Authorities have advised the public to be cautious and ensure proper ventilation when using such items in indoor settings.
