Sigandur Bridge: India’s second longest cable stayed bridge inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari
Sigandur Bridge: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Sigandur Bridge (also known as the Ambaragodlu-Kalasavalli bridge) in Shivamogga district, Karnataka, today, July 14, 2025. The bridge is a significant infrastructure project, built at a cost of over Rs 470 crore across the Sharavati backwaters. It is being hailed as India’s second-longest cable-stayed bridge and is expected to drastically reduce travel time and improve connectivity for thousands of residents and devotees visiting the Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple.

While the inauguration went ahead, there was some controversy as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requested a postponement, citing a lack of prior consultation and a scheduling conflict. However, Union Minister Gadkari reportedly shared invitation letters, stating that the CM was indeed invited. Despite this, the Chief Minister and some state ministers did not attend the event.

The Sigandur Bridge, also known as the Ambaragodlu-Kalasavalli bridge, is a newly inaugurated and significant infrastructure project in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka, India.
