Ramanagara District Hospital Doctor Faces Bribery Allegations Over Surgery

Serious allegations of bribery have surfaced at Ramanagara District Hospital, where patients and their families have accused a urology doctor of demanding money for kidney stone surgeries. The allegations have led to growing anger among patients, relatives and people in the surrounding area.

According to the complaints, Dr Vishwanath R, who has reportedly been working as the hospital’s only urologist for around three years, allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 from patients undergoing kidney stone surgery.

Patients have claimed that they were told surgical equipment was not available at the government hospital and that certain items had to be brought from outside. The allegations suggest that this explanation was used while asking patients to make payments before receiving treatment.

One of the cases cited involves Ranga Gowda from Kurubarahalli village. According to the complaint, he was asked to pay Rs 30,000 for his kidney stone operation. During the treatment, medicines worth around Rs 7,000 were reportedly purchased from outside.

The patient’s family has alleged that he experienced bleeding after the procedure and that adequate immediate dressing was not provided. The incident has added to concerns raised over the treatment received by patients who cannot afford private healthcare.

Another complaint has been made by Leelavathi from Jalamangala village. She allegedly faced a similar demand for Rs 30,000. The complaint states that she had already paid Rs 3,000 before treatment but was later asked for additional money.

According to the allegations, Leelavathi remained inside the operation theatre from around 9 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. The surgery was ultimately not performed, and she was reportedly sent back without undergoing the planned procedure.

The complaints have also raised questions about whether patients are being denied government healthcare services when they are unable or unwilling to make additional payments.

Officials had reportedly been alerted about complaints concerning the doctor earlier. The Lokayukta Superintendent of Police and health department officials are said to have warned the doctor about the allegations. The hospital surgeon had also reportedly raised concerns.

Despite those warnings, patients have alleged that the demands continued. The latest complaints have therefore intensified calls for a proper inquiry into the matter and for action if the allegations are established.

Government hospitals are expected to provide accessible healthcare, particularly to people who depend on public facilities because private treatment can be expensive. Allegations that patients were prevented from receiving surgery over money demands have consequently attracted strong criticism from the local community.

Patients and their relatives have expressed anger over what they describe as unacceptable treatment inside a government hospital. Local residents have also called for the authorities to examine the complaints and establish what happened in each case.

The allegations against Dr Vishwanath remain allegations unless established through an official investigation. However, the complaints involving multiple patients have brought renewed attention to the need for transparency in government hospitals and proper monitoring of medical services.

The controversy has now put Ramanagara District Hospital under scrutiny, with patients and members of the public expecting authorities to investigate the complaints and take appropriate action based on the findings.
