New twist in Ganavi suicide case: husband Suraj dies by suicide, mother-in-law attempts suicide

Bengaluru:The suicide case of newlywed Ganavi has taken a shocking turn with the death of her husband Suraj and a suicide attempt by his mother, Jayanti. The developments have deepened the mystery surrounding the case and intensified allegations and counter-allegations between the two families.
According to sources, following Ganavi’s death, Suraj, his mother Jayanti, and his brother Sanjay left Bengaluru and travelled to Nagpur in Maharashtra. While staying at a private hotel there, Suraj allegedly died by suicide.
Around the same time, Jayanti attempted to end her life and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nagpur. Her condition is said to be critical. Investigations and statements from family members indicate that the crisis began during the couple’s honeymoon in Sri Lanka.
It is alleged that Suraj came to know about Ganavi’s pre-marital relationship with another man, which led to frequent arguments between the newlyweds. The disputes reportedly escalated, forcing the couple to cut short their honeymoon and return to Bengaluru.
After returning, Ganavi is said to have faced rejection and humiliation from Suraj’s family over the issue. Her family has alleged that she was mentally harassed and not accepted by her in-laws because of her past relationship. Unable to cope with the alleged humiliation and emotional pressure, Ganavi attempted suicide.
Following the incident, Ganavi’s family accused Suraj and his relatives of ill-treating her. Despite being admitted to a private hospital and placed on ventilator support after doctors declared her brain-dead, Ganavi succumbed to her injuries on the night of December 25. Her death triggered widespread outrage and sharp accusations against Suraj’s family.
Unable to withstand the allegations and social pressure after Ganavi’s death, Suraj’s family reportedly left Bengaluru and went to Nagpur. It was there that Suraj was found dead in the hotel room, while his mother Jayanti attempted suicide. Police in Maharashtra are investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
Background of the case
Ganavi and Suraj were married on October 29, and a grand wedding reception was held at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru. About ten days ago, the couple travelled to Sri Lanka for their honeymoon. However, they returned midway on December 21 following disputes.
On December 22, Ganavi’s family brought her back to their house after learning about the ongoing conflict. Two days later, on December 23, Ganavi attempted suicide. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared her brain-dead and kept her on ventilator support. Despite efforts, she passed away two days later.
Following her death, Ganavi’s family filed a complaint at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station in Bengaluru, accusing Suraj’s family of dowry harassment, mental cruelty and abetment to suicide. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
With Suraj’s death and Jayanti’s suicide attempt, the case has now expanded across state lines, involving both Karnataka and Maharashtra police. Authorities are examining call records, travel details and statements from relatives to piece together the sequence of events.
The tragic chain of events has once again raised concerns about marital discord, mental health, and the devastating impact of social pressure and family conflict in newlywed marriages.
