Man attempts suicide after demolition notice over alleged encroachment in Chikkaballapura

Chikkaballapura, : A dramatic incident unfolded in Gidaganahalli village of Manchenahalli taluk in Chikkaballapura district after a man allegedly attempted suicide by consuming antibiotic tablets, reportedly to protest action initiated against him over an alleged government land encroachment.
The individual, identified as G. Radhakrishna, a resident of Gidaganahalli, is said to be employed at a reputed private college, while his wife works in the gram panchayat. Radhakrishna owns a parcel of land abutting a highway in the village. Adjacent to his private property lies government land earmarked for public purposes.
According to officials, Radhakrishna had allegedly begun constructing a house on the government land. Acting on complaints, Manchenahalli Tahsildar Poornima initiated steps to clear the under-construction structure, terming it an unauthorised encroachment.
Soon after, Radhakrishna allegedly consumed a large number of antibiotic tablets in what authorities described as a suicide attempt. Before doing so, he reportedly wrote a note blaming the Tahsildar for his decision, in what officials termed an attempt to intimidate the administration.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and is said to be out of danger.
Revenue officials clarified that the land in question in Gidaganahalli and neighbouring Buddivantanahalli village has been reserved by the state government for public infrastructure and government buildings. However, it is alleged that local Gowdagere gram panchayat authorities exceeded their jurisdiction by issuing a khata and building licence on revenue land.
Chikkaballapura Deputy Commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the matter, including the role of panchayat officials.
Responding to the incident, Tahsildar Poornima stated that action was taken strictly as per law and denied any personal targeting. She maintained that the demolition process was part of routine enforcement against encroachments.
Villagers said the family is financially stable and questioned the decision to attempt construction on government land, calling the suicide attempt unnecessary and irresponsible.
