Light Rain Expected in Parts of Karnataka as Weak Monsoon Conditions Continue

Karnataka is likely to witness light rainfall in a few districts over the next two days while strong winds continue across many regions amid concerns over delayed monsoon activity.

Karnataka is expected to receive only limited rainfall over the next two days as the southwest monsoon continues to remain weak across the state. According to the latest weather forecast, only a few districts are likely to experience light showers on July 16 and July 17, while strong winds are expected to affect several other regions.

The continuing delay in widespread monsoon activity has raised concerns among farmers, particularly those waiting for consistent rainfall to begin sowing operations. Weather experts have already indicated that there is little chance of significant rainfall across the state for at least another week, making the current weather pattern a matter of concern for the agricultural sector.

In coastal Karnataka, light rain is expected at isolated places in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts during the two day period. These districts are also likely to experience gusty winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour, according to the forecast.

Parts of north interior Karnataka may also receive scattered rainfall. Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Bidar are expected to witness light showers on July 16. However, rainfall activity in Bidar is likely to decrease on July 17, although strong winds are expected to continue. Districts including Bagalkote, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir are also forecast to experience wind speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour.

In south interior Karnataka, districts such as Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar are expected to receive light rainfall on both days. Meanwhile, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Vijayanagara, Ballari and Chikkaballapur are unlikely to receive significant rainfall, though gusty winds are expected to persist.

The lack of widespread rain continues to worry farmers across Karnataka. Agricultural experts have advised growers not to rush into sowing activities and instead monitor local weather forecasts before making decisions. Timely rainfall remains crucial for successful crop establishment, particularly during the monsoon season.

Experts also warn that if rainfall continues to remain below normal, it could affect reservoir inflows, crop growth and the availability of drinking water in several parts of the state. The coming days are therefore expected to play an important role in determining the outlook for Karnataka’s agriculture and water resources.

While a few districts may receive temporary relief through light showers, the overall monsoon situation remains subdued. Farmers and residents are now closely watching future weather updates in the hope that stronger monsoon activity will return soon and improve conditions across the state.
