KEA Completes First Round of Seat Allotment With Record Engineering Admissions

KEA has completed the first round of professional course admissions with engineering seats witnessing record allotments while students must complete reporting formalities before the July 24 deadline.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority has announced the results of the first round of seat allotment for professional courses, with engineering admissions recording one of the highest allotment rates in recent years. Students who have secured seats must complete the admission process by reporting to their allotted colleges on or before July 24.

Engineering emerged as the most sought after stream during the first round of counselling. Out of 91724 available engineering seats across Karnataka, as many as 90748 have already been allotted, leaving only 976 seats vacant. The figures reflect strong demand for engineering courses during this admission cycle.

Apart from medical, dental, AYUSH and pharmacy programmes, counselling for other professional courses has also been completed. Of the total 141872 seats available across these programmes, 122512 have been allotted in the first round, while 19374 seats remain vacant for the upcoming counselling rounds.

Students who have received seat allotments are required to report to their respective colleges within the prescribed timeline to confirm their admissions. Authorities have reminded candidates to complete all formalities before the July 24 deadline to avoid losing their allotted seats.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority has also released separate schedules for choice entry across different academic streams. Engineering candidates can begin submitting their preferences from July 16, while students applying for agricultural sciences and veterinary programmes can start the process from July 17. Separate dates have also been assigned for candidates seeking admission to yoga and naturopathy courses.

One of the most significant changes introduced this year is the revised rule regarding seat withdrawal and option changes. In previous years, candidates had limited flexibility after a seat was allotted and were generally unable to change their decision or withdraw their selection during the counselling process.

This year, however, KEA has introduced a more student friendly system that allows candidates to revise certain choices within the specified period. For example, students who initially selected Option 2 during counselling will now have an opportunity to modify their decision if they wish to pursue a different option within the permitted timeframe.

Officials believe the revised policy will give students greater flexibility during the admission process, allowing them to make better informed decisions as counselling progresses. The change is expected to reduce uncertainty for candidates who may receive improved options in subsequent rounds.

KEA Executive Director Prasanna has also reminded students to carefully follow the counselling schedule announced for their respective courses and complete every step within the stipulated deadlines. Missing any important date could affect eligibility for further rounds of the admission process.

The strong response to engineering admissions this year highlights the continued demand for technical education in Karnataka. With most engineering seats already filled during the first round itself, the remaining counselling sessions are expected to focus on the limited vacancies and seat movements created through option changes and withdrawals.

As the admission process moves into the next phase, students are advised to regularly monitor official counselling updates and complete all required procedures on time to secure their preferred courses and institutions.
