Karnataka Sets 3 Trillion Dollar Economy Goal for 2047 With Jobs and AI Push

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced a 3 trillion dollar economy target for 2047, alongside new employment programmes, AI education and technology hubs.

Karnataka has set an ambitious long term economic target, with Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announcing plans to turn the state into a 3 trillion dollar economy by 2047.

The announcement came during the Independence Day programme, where the chief minister outlined a series of initiatives focused on employment, technology, education, agriculture and development beyond Bengaluru.

Creating more jobs is one of the central themes of the plan. The government has announced programmes called Udyoga Sankalpa and Udyoga Nidhi, which are expected to support the creation of around one lakh jobs.

The government also plans to encourage companies to create employment in the state’s 10 economically weaker districts. According to the announcement, businesses creating jobs in these districts will receive an incentive of Rs 2,500 for every employment opportunity generated.

Artificial intelligence will also have a larger role in Karnataka’s education system. Government schools are expected to introduce AI education from Class 6, giving students exposure to the technology at an early stage.

The state also plans to establish what has been described as India’s first government owned AI university in Bengaluru. Alongside this, AI hubs are proposed across Karnataka to strengthen the state’s wider technology ecosystem.

The government is also looking beyond Bengaluru as part of its Beyond Bengaluru initiative. Global technology centres are planned in Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi Dharwad, Mangaluru and Mysuru, with the aim of spreading technology driven growth to other parts of the state.

Another major project is the advanced manufacturing cluster planned at Doddaballapura. The project is expected to involve an investment of around Rs 20,000 crore and could create up to one lakh employment opportunities.

The chief minister also announced proposals covering several other sectors. Bengaluru’s police commissionerate is proposed to be reorganised into five separate divisions to improve city policing. The government is also considering a state owned motor vehicle insurance corporation.

Agriculture is another area where technology is being brought into the plan. Under the Raitha Chaitanya initiative, drones and imagery are proposed for crop surveys. The Raitha Mitra scheme will provide small farmers with a 50 percent subsidy for agricultural machinery.

The broader objective is to create more opportunities for young people while making technology a stronger part of Karnataka’s economic growth. The state is already among India’s leading economic performers, with its contribution to national GDP estimated at around 9 to 10 percent.

Reaching the 3 trillion dollar target by 2047 will require sustained investment, job creation and growth across sectors. The latest announcements show that the state government wants technology, manufacturing and human capital to play a central role in that journey.
