Karnataka Opens Bus Pass Refund Process for Students; Here’s How to Claim It

Students who paid for bus passes before the launch of Karnataka's free student bus pass scheme can now apply for a refund. Applications must be submitted online through the Seva Sindhu portal.

The Karnataka government has started the refund process for students who purchased bus passes before the statewide free student bus pass scheme came into effect. Eligible students can now recover the amount they paid by submitting an online application.

The refund applies to bus passes issued by KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC before the free travel scheme was implemented. Students who have already paid the applicable fee are required to submit their claims through the Seva Sindhu portal.

To receive the refund, applicants must complete OTP-based verification, provide valid bank account details and upload the required information. After verification, the approved amount will be transferred directly to the student’s bank account through electronic payment methods, usually within seven days.

The benefit also extends to students living in Karnataka while studying in educational institutions located in neighbouring border regions, as well as students residing in border areas of neighbouring states who attend institutions within Karnataka.

The state government has approved reimbursement for passes issued before the rollout of the free scheme, with the financial burden being shared by the four state transport corporations. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of students by reducing their transportation expenses during the academic year.
