IMD issued very heavy rainfall alert in Karnataka for next 6 days
IMD issued very heavy rainfall alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued very heavy rainfall alerts for various parts of Karnataka for the next 6 days, starting from today, July 1, 2025. Karnataka: IMD issued very heavy rainfall for next 6 days.
Forecast for different regions of Karnataka:
Coastal Karnataka- Mangaluru, Udupi, Uttara Kannada: Heavy rainfall is likely over Coastal Karnataka during July 1st to July 6th. Strong surface winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are also very likely over South Peninsular India during the next 7 days, which would include the coastal areas.
South Interior Karnataka- Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kodagu):
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Interior Karnataka during July 3rd to July 5th. For Bengaluru specifically, while there might be daily showers, heavy rainfall is more specifically forecast for some of the interior districts.
North Interior Karnataka:
Heavy Rain is expected on July 3rd, July 4th, and July 5th. No warnings are issued for July 1st, 2nd, and 6th, and 7th. Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most/many places across Karnataka over the next 7 days, often accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph).
Red Alerts were previously issued for some coastal and Malnad districts in June due to heavy flooding, and intense rainfall continues to be a concern for these regions. It’s crucial to stay updated with the latest advisories from the IMD and local disaster management authorities as weather patterns can change.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), based on IMD forecasts, has issued Yellow Alerts for isolated heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours) in the following districts:
July 2, 2025: Kannur, Kasaragod
July 3, 2025: Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
July 4, 2025: Kannur, Kasaragod
Important Notes:
While these specific districts have yellow alerts for isolated heavy rain, other districts will also experience light to moderate rainfall.
There have been reports from the IMD stating that Kerala is likely to receive below-normal rainfall in July as per their long-range forecast for the month, with the south peninsular region expected to fall short of rains.
However, this is a long-range forecast and daily weather can vary, hence the current heavy rain alerts for specific days/districts. Coastal residents and fishermen should remain cautious due to potential high waves along the coast.
