Heavy Rainfall: Coastal Karnataka districts on alert
Heavy Rainfall: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across Karnataka for the next seven days, with coastal districts particularly on high alert.
Overall Karnataka Forecast (July 3 – July 9, 2025):
Widespread Rainfall: Most parts of the state are expected to receive significant rainfall. Monsoon Trough Influence. The intensified monsoon activity is due to a monsoon trough passing through central and eastern India, combined with an offshore trough along the Maharashtra-Karnataka coast.

While intense rainfall is expected for the initial days, the intensity is likely to reduce gradually from July 7 onwards, though light to moderate showers with gusty winds could continue in several areas until at least July 9.
Coastal Karnataka (Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi):
Red Alert/Extremely Heavy Rain: These districts are likely to be hit hardest. On July 3, “extremely heavy rainfall” is predicted at isolated places, with “heavy to very heavy rain” accompanied by winds of 30-40 kmph.
Similar conditions are expected to persist for the next two days (July 4 and 5) before easing slightly, though light to moderate showers will continue.
Warnings: Authorities have advised vigilance in flood-prone and low-lying areas.

North Interior Karnataka (Belagavi, Dharwad, Bidar, Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadgir):
Heavy to Very Heavy Rain: Belagavi is forecast to receive “heavy to very heavy rain” with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph on July 3 and 4. Dharwad is also expected to see significant rainfall.
Moderate Showers: Other districts in this region may experience moderate showers and winds.
South Interior Karnataka (Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Davangere, etc.):
Heavy to Very Heavy Rain: Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, and Kodagu are on alert for “heavy to very heavy rainfall” on July 3 and 4, with the possibility of “extremely heavy rain” in isolated spots on July 3. These hilly regions are particularly prone to landslides.
Light to Moderate Rain: Bengaluru and surrounding areas are expected to witness generally cloudy skies, with light to moderate rain over the next 48 hours, accompanied by winds of up to 50 kmph.
Residents, particularly those in flood and landslide-prone areas, are urged to stay alert and follow local advisories issued by district administrations and the Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru. Take necessary precautions to ensure safety during heavy downpours and strong winds.
