Education Dept Acts After Student Stopped from Writing II PUC Exam
Haveri: A teacher has been suspended after she allegedly prevented a student from writing the II PUC examination due to unpaid fees at BJSS College in Ranebennur.
The controversy erupted on February 28 when Sara Jessica arrived to write her Kannada exam. The college management had reportedly withheld her hall ticket citing non-payment of ₹30,000 in fees. Despite this, the student appeared at the centre hoping to be allowed to take the test.
Eyewitnesses alleged that teacher Sunita D.B. blocked her entry and made remarks perceived as defending the college’s stand. When social activist Hanumanthappa intervened on behalf of the student and demanded issuance of the hall ticket, he too was allegedly subjected to high-handed behaviour.
It was claimed that his bike key and mobile phone were taken during the altercation before the hall ticket was handed over.
After the matter came to light and received media attention, the Education Department initiated an inquiry. Deputy Director Mohan Dandina reviewed the report submitted by Block Education Officer Shyamasundar Adiga and recommended disciplinary action.
Based on the findings, Sunita D.B., a science teacher at a government upgraded high school, has been suspended pending further investigation.
Officials stated that denying a student the opportunity to write a public examination over fee disputes is a serious matter and appropriate action has been taken.
