Congress leader Alim implicated in Anna Bhagya rice scam
Bengaluru: In a recent operation, the Karnataka Rajya Samiti (KRS) party uncovered a scam involving Anna Bhagya rice, a government scheme meant to feed the poor.
Alim, a Congress leader from Yalachennahalli, has been accused of buying rice at lower prices from BPL (Below Poverty Line) cardholders and selling it in black markets, including in Kaal Santhe (a local market).
The KRS party members, who conducted the operation, handed over the seized rice and vehicle to the police. They have accused Alim of being the mastermind behind the racket. KRS leaders also allege that Alim has been threatening them with death.
As a result, a case has been filed against Alim and three others at the Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station.
45 sacks of rice found in the seized tempo
During the operation, KRS leaders uncovered 45 sacks of Anna Bhagya rice hidden in a tempo. The party has also alleged that Alim’s goons were trying to intimidate KRS members by surrounding their homes and attempting physical assaults. Alim has been accused of being involved in land deals as well, allegedly acting as a middleman for BDA officeholders.
Rising tensions between KRS and Alim’s faction
The dispute between Alim and KRS members has been escalating for several days, particularly in areas like Yalachennahalli and Elias Nagar. After the rice scam was exposed, tensions further intensified, leading to public confrontations. Police are expected to investigate the full extent of the scam and bring the involved parties to justice.
