Brother held for murdering sibling in Anekal after years of harassment and theft

Anekal : Police have cracked the case of an unidentified youth found murdered earlier this month on the Kagalipura roadside bushes under the Bannerghatta police limits. Investigations have revealed a chilling twist — the victim’s own elder brother plotted and executed the murder, unable to tolerate his sibling’s violent behaviour and repeated criminal acts.

The deceased has been identified as Dhanaraj (24), a native of Kalaburagi. Police have arrested his brother Shivaraj along with his friends, Sandeep and Prashanth, for their involvement in the killing. The case was solved after police tracked CCTV footage from the surrounding areas, which clearly showed the accused abandoning the body.

According to police, Dhanaraj lived with his parents in Kalaburagi and had become notorious in the locality. He neither worked nor supported his family; instead, he frequently stole valuables such as mobile phones and livestock. He returned home drunk on most days, assaulting his parents and often attacking his elder brother. He had even threatened to kill Shivaraj on several occasions, creating constant tension at home.

Unable to bear his younger brother’s harassment any longer, Shivaraj allegedly conspired with his friends to eliminate him. As per the plan, he lured Dhanaraj to Bengaluru on the pretext of arranging a job. When Dhanaraj sat inside the car browsing his mobile phone, Sandeep and Prashanth allegedly pinned his hands from behind. In that moment, Shivaraj struck him on the neck with a machete, killing him inside the vehicle.

The trio then drove to Kagalipura, dumped the body in roadside bushes, and fled.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from nearby areas and traced the vehicle used in the crime. Using the car’s registration details, they identified and arrested the accused. The body, found in a decomposed state on November 6, was later confirmed to be that of Dhanaraj.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased have reportedly shown little anguish over the younger son’s death, stating that his violent behaviour had long troubled the family. However, they appealed to police to spare their elder son, who was supporting them. Despite the plea, Bannerghatta police have remanded all accused to judicial custody at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. The investigation is ongoing.
