Ankola gas tanker accident causes leak, driver seriously injured

Karwar: A gas tanker accident led to a hazardous gas leak on National Highway-52 near Kanchi Gate in Ankola, Uttara Kannada district, officials reported. The tanker, traveling from Gujarat towards Udupi, overturned after the driver lost control, resulting in the leakage of ethanol.

The driver, Arun Shekhar (57), sustained serious injuries and was immediately admitted to a hospital in Udupi. Following the accident, authorities closed the affected section of NH-52, and traffic was diverted via the Ankola–Madanagere route.

Firefighters and NDR teams were rushed to the site to contain the gas leak and prevent any potential hazards. Safety measures are currently in place while the tanker is being secured and the ethanol is removed safely.

Ankola police have registered a case regarding the incident, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. Officials have urged motorists to avoid the area until the situation is fully under control.
