Bomb threat emails sent to Rajinikanth and Dhanush, Chennai police launch probe
Chennai: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and popular actor Dhanush have received bomb threat emails, prompting an investigation by the Chennai police. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that the threatening messages were sent to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu, claiming that explosives had been planted at the residences of both actors.
According to police sources, the first email was received around 8:30 a.m. on Monday (October 27), warning that a bomb had been placed at Rajinikanth’s residence in Teynampet. Following the alert, the local police along with the Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the location.
However, Rajinikanth reportedly declined to allow a full-scale search, stating that no suspicious activity had been observed in the vicinity. Later that evening, around 6:30 p.m., another threat email was received, reiterating the same claim.
Once again, the actor’s security staff denied permission for an immediate search operation, citing that there was no visible threat. On the same day, a similar bomb threat email targeting actor Dhanush’s residence was received.
Dhanush, too, reportedly refused police requests for an extensive search, saying he did not want to cause unnecessary panic. Police officials said that the Cyber Crime Wing has taken up the investigation to trace the source of the emails, which appear to be part of a recent spate of fake bomb threats sent to prominent personalities in Tamil Nadu.
“Such emails have been sent to several well-known figures in recent days. The cyber team is analyzing the sender’s IP address and mail servers to identify the origin,” a senior police officer said.
While police have not found any explosives or suspicious material at either location, additional security has been deployed outside both Rajinikanth’s and Dhanush’s residences as a precautionary measure.
The incident has sparked public concern, especially given the recurring pattern of hoax bomb threats targeting high-profile individuals across Chennai in recent months.
