Vijay Rally Stampede: Bomb threat to actor Vijay Chennai residence
Vijay Rally Stampede: A bomb threat was reported at the Chennai residence of actor-politician Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay), the day after a deadly stampede occurred at a political rally of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Karur, Tamil Nadu.
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Chennai Police received a phone call claiming that a bomb had been planted at Vijay’s residence in Neelankarai along the East Coast Road (ECR). Security was immediately increased at the residence. A bomb disposal squad, along with sniffer dogs, was dispatched to the location to conduct a thorough search.
A probe into the origin of the threat call is underway. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, a stampede-like situation erupted during a political rally addressed by Vijay in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu.

The tragedy resulted in the death of at least 40 people, including women and children, with dozens more injured. The stampede was reportedly triggered by a sudden surge in the massive crowd, which far exceeded the permitted limit, along with panic after some attendees fainted.
The Tamil Nadu government has constituted a one-man Commission of Inquiry led by a retired High Court judge to probe the incident. Police have filed a criminal case against senior TVK leaders for offences including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The TVK has also moved the Madras High Court seeking a CBI or independent investigation into the tragedy, alleging a conspiracy.
