Two stabbed to death for helping lovers elope in Bhadravathi

Shivamogga: The district witnessed a shocking double murder after two men were brutally stabbed to death for allegedly helping a couple who had eloped. The incident occurred in Jaibheem Layout of Bhadravathi town, sending shockwaves across the district.

The victims have been identified as Kiran (25) and Manjunath (45), residents of the locality. According to police, the couple had left their homes two days earlier and appeared before the old police station on Friday evening. Soon after, the girl’s brother and his friends allegedly confronted the boy’s associates, accusing them of supporting the elopement.

An argument reportedly broke out near the police station premises. When Kiran and Manjunath attempted to intervene and pacify both sides, the accused allegedly attacked them with knives. Both sustained severe injuries and collapsed on the spot. They were rushed to hospital, but doctors declared them dead.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by anger and a sense of revenge, as the accused believed the victims played a key role in facilitating the couple’s relationship and escape. Police have termed it a clear case of murder arising out of personal enmity linked to the love affair.

The Bhadravathi police have arrested five accused in connection with the case and seized the weapons used in the crime. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the roles of each accused.
