Two robbers caught by locals after snatching cash bag near Chikkaballapur
Chikkaballapur: Two alleged robbers were caught and tied to a pole by local residents after they snatched a bag containing cash from a car near Chikkaballapur on Saturday. However, another suspect managed to escape with the money.
The incident took place near KV Campus on the outskirts of the town. According to police, a woman identified as Usha from Andhra Pradesh was travelling with her two children towards Bengaluru to attend a relative’s wedding.
The family had reportedly pledged their gold ornaments and was carrying the money to contribute to the wedding expenses. On the way, they stopped near Chikkaballapur to have tea.
As soon as the car door was opened, three unidentified youths approached the vehicle in a dramatic fashion, snatched the bag containing cash and attempted to flee.
Usha’s children raised an alarm, attracting the attention of local youngsters who were playing cricket nearby. The youths immediately chased the suspects and managed to catch two of them after a brief pursuit.
Angry residents allegedly thrashed the suspects and tied them to a pole before informing the police. However, during the commotion, the third accused escaped with the cash bag.
Police from the Nandi Giridhama Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information and took the two suspects into custody. A search operation has been launched to trace the absconding accused.
Investigators said there are several suspicious aspects in the case. The robbers appeared to have precise information about the cash being carried in the car and the moment when the door was opened.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspects reportedly claimed that the people in the car were known to them. Police said further investigation is underway to verify these claims and determine whether the robbery was pre-planned.
