Hassan : A tragic road accident occurred near Kaggadikavalu Forest in Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district late Sunday night, claiming two lives and leaving two others seriously injured.
According to police, an Innova car, coming at high speed from the Channarayapatna side, rammed into two two-wheelers β first hitting an Activa scooter and then a Yamaha bike β before veering off the road into a forest area near the Housing Board locality.
The impact was so severe that two people riding the Yamaha bike β Basavaraju and Anushree (19) β died on the spot. Their friend, Chaya (20), who was riding pillion, sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to the intensive care unit of Channarayapatna Taluk Hospital.
Police sources said the three had come from Bengaluru to seek the blessings of Goddess Hasanamba. After completing their temple visit, they were returning together on a single bike when the speeding car struck them.
The Activa rider, identified as Mohammad Shahid, also suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Channarayapatna police visited the accident spot, conducted an inspection, and have registered a case. Preliminary investigation suggests reckless driving by the Innova driver caused the accident. Police are on the lookout for the vehicleβs driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over devotees returning from the Hasanamba temple, where thousands had gathered for the annual darshan. Locals have demanded stricter traffic regulation and deployment of police along the stretch during the temple festival to prevent such mishaps in the future.
