Student found dead in hostel, family alleges harassment over drug case

Bengaluru : A 19-year-old student was found dead in a hostel room on the outskirts of Bengaluru, triggering serious allegations of harassment linked to a drug-related case.

The deceased, identified as Aditya A P, was a second-year BSc Nursing student at a private college in Bommasandra. His body was discovered hanging in his hostel room on April 29 after classmates alerted authorities.

Family members have alleged that the student was subjected to mental harassment by the college administration after being falsely implicated in a narcotics-related case.

“My son was framed in a drug case and humiliated in front of other students. He was under severe mental stress due to this,” Aditya’s father Pradeep said in his complaint.

According to the family, the alleged public humiliation and pressure pushed the student into depression. “He could not bear the mental torture. That is what drove him to take this extreme step,” Pradeep claimed.

A complaint has been registered at Hebbagodi Police Station, and police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The incident has drawn parallels with a recent case in Dharwad, where a student’s suicide linked to a ganja case led to the suspension of police personnel, raising broader concerns about misuse of drug-related charges and institutional pressure on students.

Separate accident claims minor’s life
In a separate incident, a 15-year-old boy died after being hit by a private bus on the Hennur-Bagalur main road in Bengaluru.

The victim, identified as Varun, had recently passed Class 9 and was returning home from a shop when the accident occurred.

Police said the body has been shifted to Yelahanka Government Hospital for postmortem, and a case has been registered by traffic police. Further investigation is underway.
