Three people died and six were hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor in Bihar’s Siwan district on Sunday. On being informed about the incident, District Magistrate Amit Kumar Pandey reached Sadar Hospital Siwan at midnight and enquired about the matter.Talking to the media, the DM said that three people have died under suspicious conditions and six people are critically ill, who are receiving treatment in Sadar Hospital in Siwan. “We are investigating the matter.”

He added that a total of 10 people have been arrested in the case. However, he did not mention the cause of the deaths.In December 2022, as many as 70 people died after consuming spurious liquor in Bihar’s Chhapra district.The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested a liquor smuggler in connection with the case and also recovered Rs 2.17 lakh in cash.

The hooch tragedy in Chhapra hogged national limelight. After the incident, the Saran police have launched an operation to identify and arrest people suspected to be involved in the illicit liquor trade, transportation, smuggling and brewing.
