Man kills 18-year-old daughter in Kerala after wife seeks divorce

Kerala: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across the Kerala–Karnataka border region, a man brutally murdered his 18-year-old daughter after his wife demanded a divorce.

The tragic incident occurred at Kunjathur near Manjeshwar in Kasaragod district of Kerala. The accused has been identified as Umar Pasha, a resident of Thoominadu Hill Top Nagar in Kunjathur.

According to police sources, Pasha allegedly stabbed his daughter Jubaira to death in a fit of rage triggered by ongoing family disputes.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Pasha was furious after his wife Tahira, aged 41, expressed her intention to separate from him and sought a divorce. Unable to accept the decision, the accused reportedly took out his anger on his teenage daughter, leading to the horrific crime.

On Sunday, Pasha suddenly attacked Jubaira with a knife inside their house. Hearing her screams, Pasha’s elder brother Shekunj rushed to rescue her. However, the accused also assaulted him with the knife, leaving him seriously injured.

Family members immediately rushed the grievously injured girl to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared Jubaira dead on arrival. Shekunj, who sustained deep stab injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Manjeshwar police reached the spot soon after receiving information and conducted a detailed inspection. The victim’s body was later sent for post-mortem examination and subsequently handed over to the family.

Police have taken Umar Pasha into custody and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Initial reports suggest that the accused was working abroad and had returned home only three months ago.

It is learnt that marital discord had been brewing between the couple for some time. Tahira had reportedly asked her husband to leave the house and proceed with legal separation, which deeply frustrated Pasha.

Sources also claim that the accused was addicted to narcotic substances and might have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime. Police are probing this angle as part of the investigation.

Local residents have expressed shock and grief over the brutal killing, describing Jubaira as a quiet and well-behaved girl. The incident has once again highlighted the rising concern over domestic violence and crimes arising out of family disputes.

Authorities have assured strict legal action against the accused. Further investigation is continuing, and police are recording statements from family members and neighbours to gather more evidence.

The gruesome incident has left the entire region in mourning and raised serious questions about mental health, substance abuse and domestic conflicts leading to extreme violence.
